New BU Chapter Gains School-Wide Publicity

Congratulations to the newly formed PHR chapter at Boston University! They have organized an excellent line-up of Week of Action activites and it really shows. BU Today, an online news publication circulated to all BU students, faculty and staff, has picked up the Week of Action and made it front page news. Check out this quote from Jirair Ratevosian, Boston University School of Public Health ’07 and co-leader of the PHR chapter:
All students must fight their hardest to prevent one more person from getting HIV. All students should raise their voices and advocate for the issues that are related to HIV/AIDS, not only during the Week of Action but every chance they get. In the past, student activism has been responsible for many victories, including additional funding for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and increased access to more affordable antiretroviral therapy.
You can read the full article, which is an interview with Jirair, here.
Jirair has been working with Alexis Greenan (School of Public Health) and Brian Betensky (School of Medicine) to create a new PHR chapter at the BU. They decided that the Week of Action is a great way to introduce PHR to the BU community and mobilize students at the same time, and their efforts are really paying off. The BU School of Medicine officially recognized them as a new student group last week!
When you go to the BU Today interview with Jirair, you’ll see a great photo of BU’s Empty White Coat display. Remember to post photos from this week’s events on PHR’s student Flickr page so we can see more images from the Week of Action.
